The first 30 seconds of the video will make you wonder what exactly is going on in this video on Holla Mohalla.
Why are Singhs are running with raised kirpans. One thought that comes to mind would be a race as a Singh in the beginning flags off. The Singhs then run down the road while people are throwing holi colors in the air.
This particular event happened at Purana Pool Darwaza Hyderabad, South India. The Singhs performed Shastar Salami as it can be seen towards the end of the video. It’s a puratan (Old) tradition showing respect for the weapons of the Khalsa because all weapons are treated with the highest respect. Guru Gobind Singh Ji has also written Bani called Shastar Nam Mala which praises many different types of weapons of defense.
A tradition long forgotten in Punjab but maintained by Sikhs in the South especially at Hazur Sahib, Nanded, Maharashtra where it is performed during Holla Mohalla and other important events.
