A well known Sikh was shot dead driving his ice cream truck in a neighborhood in East Oakland, California. Jasvir Singh was shot dead after a gun man approached his ice cream truck at 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon between 92nd and 94th avenues.

Jasvir was shot 5 times before the gun man ran through backyards to escape.

A witness who saw the shooting said he witnessed the ice cream truck crashing into a parked car after he heard shots being fired.

Jasvir Singh was the second man shot dead in the town last week.

The mayor of Oakland made the following statement:

“Every loss of life is tragic and that is why safety will continue to be my highest priority,” Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf said in a statement Sunday. “There is something especially poignant when someone engaged in a positive and innocent act — like painting a mural or bringing ice cream to children — is taken by senseless violence.”
