In Video, Pakistan Claims to be Birthplace of Sikhs

In a video released on Facebook by the Pakistan Defense, it claims to be the birthplace of the Sikh religion. However, the Sikhism was founded in the 15th century and nearly 450 years before the creation of Pakistan. Although, the site of the birthplace of Sikhism Rai Bhoi di Talwandi, now called Nankana Sahib is in present day Pakistan but Pakistan can’t be called the birthplace of Sikhs.

The creators of the video go a bit further and title the video “Pakistan – The “Makkah” of Sikhs” which is inaccurate as Sikhs don’t have any place that can be called a “Makkah” as Sikhs believe in the eternal Guru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

The video of the Pakistan Defense is an effort to gain more tourism for Sikh historical shrines of which there are over 2,000. The vast majority of Gurdwaras before 1947 were in the land now called Pakistan. The Sikhs lost their heritage, Gurdwaras, and land after the 1947 partition.
