Uproar In India Over BBC Documentary on Nirbhaya Rape Case (Video)


The documentary titled “India’s Daughter” on the brutal gang rape of “Nirbhaya” in New Delhi as caused a massive uproar in India. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry with the help of a Court in Patiala has issued an order for the documentary to be banned.

Reportedly, the documentary shows how woman are treated in India and in particular the convicted man blamed the woman for fighting back while being raped. The interview has become controversial has the convict blamed Nirbhaya for resisting while being raped. He stated in the interview several times that her life would’ve been saved had she not “fought back.”

The goverment issued the following statement “We can ban the film in India. But this is an international conspiracy to defame India. We will see how the film can be stopped abroad too,” said M Venkaiah Naidu, India’s minister of parliamentary affairs.

The director of the film Leslee Udwin has appealed to PM Modi to revoke the ban but his own Home Minister Rajnaath Singh has issued statements calling for a permanent ban on journalists visiting jails.
