He’s popularized Gurmat Sangeet which has enabled young Kirtaniyes like his son Gursewak Singh to continue the Sikh musical traditions of raag based kirtan.
In one of the Sikh Channel interviews, Bhai Sahib describes the difficult times of living through poverty in his childhood yet remaining determined to living an honest and truthful life. He describes the poverty was so bad that Bhai Sahib’s mother passed away due to not having enough money to buy her medicine. Bhai Sahib describes this as one of the turning points in their life. Also, he couldn’t attend school because their family didn’t have enough money to buy school supplies let alone pay for school fees.
Seva of Medical Camps
Bhai Balwinder Singh Rangila took upon themselves in organizing free medical camps for people who are less fortunate to afford medicines. The camps provide medicines for various illnesses, free eye treatment, medical operations, pain medicines, and other medical needs of the underprivileged members of the society.
Monthly Ration of Food to Needy
The charitable organization of Bhai Balwinder Singh Ji Rangila goes a step further in their seva efforts and provides monthly ration of food needs to those who are unable to have money for meals. The seva of the charitable organization signs up people with the most needs and delivers much needed food necessities to people. There was student Bhai Sahib came to know of that would bring an empty lunch box to school without any food. The student would wet his lips to make others realize that he was eating food but in reality there was nothing in his lunch box. When Bhai Balwinder Singh Rangila came to know, he provided the poor family with a monthly pension to care for their well being.
Well Being of Daughters
An emotional time in Bhai Balwinder Singh Ji Rangila’s life was when his 3 month year old sister died due to starvation. The family of Bhai Sahib was very poor that they were unable to provide milk to their sister. This incident forever changed the life of Bhai Sahib to care for the daughters of the poor.
A less known seva of Bhai Balwinder Singh Rangila is to help the daughters of Punjab’s poor farmers who are unable to pay for their daughters weddings. One of the biggest financial burden of farmers is to pay for their daughter’s weddings. Many farmers who are underwater with incredible debt often commit suicide and the thought of paying for wedding of their daughter causes great mental stress. Bhai Balwinder Singh Rangila recognized this distress of farmers and provided much needed aid. He has organized mass wedding ceremonies where a number of poor families were able to have their Anand Karaj without any cost to them. This incredible seva is often not brought to the public but should be recognized as he’s potentially saved the life of so many farmers. Over 500 weddings have been done by Bhai Sahib’s Charity and the mass weddings are done yearly.
