The UN Human Rights led by Commissioner Michelle Bachelet issued a statement in regards to the farmer protests in India.
The tweet read:
#India: We call on the authorities and protesters to exercise maximum restraint in ongoing #FarmersProtests. The rights to peaceful assembly & expression should be protected both offline & online. It’s crucial to find equitable solutions with due respect to #HumanRights for all.

The statement is issued after international media picked up the issue in the last few days. International celebrities have tweeted in support of the farmers protest. The tweet of Rihanna went viral on social media causing activists, journalists, environmentalists, and people from around the world to support the farmers.
However, an attempt was made by Bollywood actors to counter the international support.
The niece of Kamala Harris tweeted in favor of the farmers protest and was countered by trolls. A group in India burned her picture in protest of her interfering with internal matters in India.
She tweeted against the attempts of intimidation against her:
Weird to see a photo of yourself burned by an extremist mob but imagine what they would do if we lived in India. I'll tell you—23 yo labor rights activist Nodeep Kaur was arrested, tortured & sexually assaulted in police custody. She's been detained without bail for over 20 days. pic.twitter.com/Ypt2h1hWJz
