Tribute to Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra “Enlightenment”

1984 marked the beginning of a decade of violence that shattered lives throughout Punjab, India, where Indian security forces countered a violent Sikh separatist movement by torturing and murdering thousands of Sikh civilians and militants alike. Many of these victims were “disappeared” – abducted by security forces and never heard from again. Until his own abduction and murder by Punjab police, human rights defender Jaswant Singh Khalra worked tirelessly to trace the disappeared, to give peace to the survivors, and to promote the rule of law in India.
