The CM of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao has announced Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Parkash Diwas as a holiday. The CM visited Sikhs in a Gurdwara last year and promised to make Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Parkash Diwas to be a holiday in the state and to allot 3 acres of land for the biggest Gurdwara Sahib in the South.

The Telangana Sikh community is one of the most politically active community in the country. The first Sikh mayor of a city was elected in Telangana last year despite Sikhs being a minority community.

The contribution of the small Sikh contribution is immense and the state has among the highest percentage of Amritdhari GurSikhs.
