Sikhs living in Sikkim spoke out against the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib Ji at Gurdwara Dongmar. Lamas of the Buddhists religion removed belongings of the Gurdwara including Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This caused an outrage worldwide among Sikhs worldwide and a call of action to meet officials was initiated.

The Gurdwara was built by Sikh soldiers of the Sikh regiment and marks the spot where Guru Nanak Dev Ji visited. The name ‘Dongmar’ came about after the local shepards told Guru Sahib that there is no drinking water in the area and requested him to help them. Guru Sahib slammed his dong at a location and came out water. This is the only spot where a water spring exists in the whole area and only place where drinking water is available.

The Buddhists claim the area that it belongs to them without any historical evidence.
