A Sikh Amritdhari woman Manjit Kaur was attacked in Mumbai by an auto driver. The auto driver punched the women in the face.
Manjit suffered vision loss and other injuries to the head. She told the media that no one came to her rescue and she was left to defend herself.
Local lawyer Amritpal Singh told Akaal Channel that the women has a right to defend herself and she stood her ground and acted in self defense.
The Sikh community of Mumbai came to the rescue of the woman by speaking to the police as she was arrested.
What exactly happened?
The woman told the media that she was headed home from work and pulled onto the road with her scooter. The autodriver was coming in fast on the road and as she pulled out onto the road the two collided. She stated the auto driver started to verbally abuse her. She went on her way but the auto driver followed her to her house.
The woman went onto say that the auto driver gathered other auto and rickshaw drivers and attacked her by punching and hitting her. She said she was hit consecutively and fell on the floor 5 times and when she could not take the physical beating anymore, she resorted to taking out her kirpan.
The daughter of the woman was abused and threatened by auto driver and the woman says her life is in danger.
An FIR was registered against the Amritdhari woman.
The Sikh community came to the support of the woman by providing emotional support. They gathered outside of the police station to speak to the head officer in regards to the issue.
