Sikh Regiment is the Only Regiment to Salute Twice During Republic Day Parade, Here’s the Reason

The Republic Day march starts at Vijay Chowk & ends at Red Fort in Delhi. The regiments of the Indian army salute only the President. As per regiment tradition, the Sikh regiment contingent salutes twice. The coln cdr orders “Dahiney Dekh” & lowers sword in salute when going past Gurdwara Sisganj Sahib also. The Sewadars shower petals amidst jaikaras as they pass Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib.

The Sikh Regiment is an infantry regiment of the Indian Army that recruits from the Sikh community and is the most decorated regiment in the Indian Army. The regiment was formed just before the British Empire annexed the Sikh Empire.

It can be seen in this video of the Sikh soldiers saluting twice.
