After Navdeep Singh Bains and Harjit Singh Sajjan became the first turban Cabinet Ministers of Canada, a Turbaned Sikh named Amrik Singh Ahluwalia is now the Head of Canadian Police of Peel region.


Amrik Singh was chosen as the chairman for the Peel Police board after the Brampton Mayor Linda Jeffrey and Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie both backed him as he was determined to be the right man for the job.

Amrik Singh was appointed into the provincial government in Februaru 2011 and re-appointed in 2014. Previously, he was the General Manager of Shell Canada from where he retired after 29 years of service.

Ahluwalia is involved in several major community projects such as the Seva Food Bank of Mississauga, founding director of the Khalsa Credit Union, serving as President of the Sikh Society of Calgary, and organising Sikh youth camps.

Amrik Singh gained a masters in Engineering from Carleton University and an MBA from Mcmaster University.
