Various Sikh groups around Punjab took to the streets to protest against film “Nanak Shah Fakir.” Unlike before, political leaders like Akali Dal’s Prem Singh Chandumajra stated, “no film can depict Guru Nanak as the religion doesn’t allow any person visual or any other type.”

Many Sikh bodies have submitted letters to the Akal Takht Jathedar demanding a ban on the film.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan stated on the matter, “no person can play role of Guru Sahiban or members of the Gurus family and that is why Sikh sangat are upset and quam won’t accept it.”

The major names in Bollywood such as AR Rahman supported the film and said the message of Guru Nanak needs to get out to the world. Resul Pookuty stated that message of Guru Nanak is not just for 50 Million Sikhs but for all.

It remains to be seen what the High court or Punjab Government decide on the matter.
