Following the elections of the Railway Employees Society in Amritsar the winning union members celebrated their victory by defying law and order, firing shots into the air, with no regard for the passing public or safety of those passengers boarding and arriving from the trains. This all happened with the presence of Railway Police who stood by and did not intervene.
The winning party celebrated in the manner which has become the norm in Punjab, believing it shows a display of strength and power.
This is typical following MLA and MP elections too where the workers and hired thugs take to the streets to celebrate their victory.
But the concerning thing is that the lack of law in the state has become standard and no longer surprises the public.
