The video of approximately 13 youths cheering as they vandalise the building has received thousands of views and comments. Many have gone on to name those involved from the video footage and the names being bandied about are being investigated by the police. The Kent Police have made a short statement confirming the incident is being investigated. They are expected to shortly make another statement. One of the youths involved has been named as a youth footballer for Charlton Athletic Football Club who will also be releasing a statement shortly. We will be sharing both.

Please note the following facts around the incident;

The Gurdwara building in question has been unused and up for sale for approximately seven years
Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj was not in the building, nor were any Sikh scriptures
The Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara committee have continually taken steps to keep the building secure
Here Sikh PA share a statement from Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara committee who own the Gurdwara building;

“We have been informed of the video that is circulating social media and have been working with Kent Police to ensure this matter is dealt with seriously. We will be working to re-secure the building as soon as possible.”

Tarsem Singh Mahil, general secretary of the Gravesend Gurdwara states: “This is very bad news, and it’s quite upsetting. There is a risk this will cause animosity within different communities, we don’t want that.”
