SGPC Member Gurinder Singh from Sri Anandpur Sahib has given his resignation letter to SGPC head Avtar Singh Makkar. He stated that the Jathedars violated Akal Takht Maryada and should have consulted with Panthic Sikh groups before making a decision. Several more SGPC members are expected to hand in their resignation letters.
There is talks of Giani Gurmukh Singh resigning.
According to sources, Giani Gurbachan Singh and Avtar Singh Makkar are persuading Giani Gurmukh Singh to not change his decision regarding the pardon.
A closed door meeting took place between Giani Gurbachan Singh and SGPC head Avtar Singh Makkar where reportedly Makkar assured the Jathedar of staying put on the decision.
The effigies of the Jathedar are being burnt worldwide after the pardon. Sikhs worldwide expressed their unhappiness over the issue and most Sikh groups have opposed the decision.
Several members of the SGPC protested against the decision and expressed their anger in the general house meeting of the SGPC. Several protests have already taken place outside Sri Akal Takht Sahib against the Akal Takht Jathedar.
