The affiliate of the RSS and supposedly the “Sikh” wing called Rashtriya Sikh Sangat has submitted a list of 78 names to Home Minister Rajnaath Singh wanting the release of the Sikh prisoners.
The BJP government has denied the release of Sikh Political Prisoners who are involved in the case of former Punjab CM Beant Singh’s assassination.
Reportedly, the RSS also in their request wanted the black listed Sikhs to be allowed to enter the nation. However, the delegation requested the government to stand trial if there were any pending cases but wanted to abolish the list.
“Some people who are in jails for Punjab militancy are between 65 and 85 and some have been in jail for over 20 years. Punjab militancy is anyway a thing of the past,” a Sikh Sangat release prepared after the meeting said. “In such circumstances, these Sikhs should be freed.”
Rajnaath Singh hasn’t publicly stated what he’ll be deciding on the issue but media reports from spokeperson’s point to no action in the release of Sikh prisoners.
A Sikh Sangat leader, “There were people who went astray during militancy days but want to return to the mainstream. We should give those who have served their jail terms a chance,” the leader said, on condition of anonymity.
When contacted, the RSS refused to comment on the issue.
