Punjab Farmers Walkout of Meeting With Centre

The Punjab farmers’ union representatives walked out of their meeting with centre government representatives on the discussions with new farm laws. The meeting was held with a low ranking official the Union Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Agarwal. The farmers had hoped the meeting would be with at the least with a minister.

The farmer unions groups assembled outside and ripped copies of the farm bill laws. The farmers expressed their frustration of the meeting not being with Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.

Up until the meeting, the farmers had refused to engage in dialogue with the central government.

The heads of the farmer groups told the media they would intensify the agitation across Punjab and would protest against corporate houses.

Farmers met the Union secretary for just an hour and 15 minutes and continuously demanded to meet with the Union Minister of Agriculture.

The farmers told the media that the Modi government disrespected the farmers. The sincerity of the government was questioned by the farmers.
