Below Statement by United Sikhs:
After persistent advocacy done by the UNITED SIKHS International Civil and Human Rights Advocacy (ICHRA) Team, Pikey Bar and Restaurant has removed the portraits of the Gurus from their establishment. We would like to thank the management of Pikey Bar and Restaurant for being understanding of the sensitivity of the matter and for acting upon our request in a timely manner. Thank you to all our supporters who signed our petition as well. This is just an example of how we can move mountains when we work together.
As of late Thursday night pictures of Sikh Gurus continue to be hung inside the “Maharaja Room” of Pikey Bar.
United Sikhs representative Karam Grewal spoke to the manager of the bar Hallelujah Walcott, who told him that the portraits would be removed “very soon.” However, no definite timeline was established.
Karam Grewal of United Sikhs was quoted telling India-West Magazine:
“Our religion is very against drinking. Hanging pictures of our guru where people are drinking is very disrespectful,” Karam Grewal, told India-West Magazine. “Images of Guru Gobind Singh are only found in gurdwaras or in private homes,” the Indian American said, adding that Pikey has tried to create an Indo-British feel to its Maharaja room, where portraits of maharajahs hang alongside pictures of Sikh saints.
“They’re being passive aggressive. They have said they will take them down, but have not told us when. They realize that they have hurt a lot of people, but they’re not doing anything about it,” she said, adding that Pikey’s managers should close that part of the restaurant or at least cover the portraits until the matter is settled.
Another Publication called WEHOville spoke to the Manager of Pikey’s Bar Noam Rubin regarding the removal of the pictures, the manager said Pikey’s is waiting for replacement paintings to arrive.
The bar is owned by New York hotelier Sean MachPherson whose net worth is estimated at 800 Million dollars according to India West Magazine.
Committed, Inc. is the company the Bar is under which Owns eight restaurants in Southern California and a number of hotels in New York.
United Sikhs have asked the owner to donate the portraits to a local Gurdwara after removal.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandik Committee (SGPC) has condemned the attack on Prabhjot Singh, an assistant professor at the Columbia University in the United States (US) and demanded immediate arrest of all those involved in the hate crime.
Expressing concern over the latest incident of hate crime in the US, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said here on Tuesday that such incidents against Sikhs are not checked despite numerous appeals by Sikh groups and organisations. It is all the more sad that it has happened in a country like the US, the most powerful democratic nation of the world, he added.
The assistant professor was attacked by a group of young men while he was taking a morning walk in the Harlem neighbourhood of Manhattan, New York. The attackers called the victim a terrorist and Osama.
“Despite our best efforts of explaining our distinct identity, such attacks have not stopped. The US government needs to take such incidents more seriously”, he added.
He also pointed to the killing of seven persons during an attack at the Oak Creek gurdwara in Wisconsin state last year. He appealed to the Obama administration to take concrete steps to protect Sikhs, who are prey of mistaken identity and become easy targets of hate crime.
