Pardon to Ram Rahim Row : As Jathedars claimed that they received the apology letter a few days ago, some alleged that it was an old one that the Akal Takht had resurrected. President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) Paramjit Singh Sarna said that five Jathedars had no right to take decision without consulting Sikh Panth. “The apology letter was sent in 2007. Why did the Sikh clergy suddenly take a decision on it now?” he asked.
Many are seeing the decision as a political move ahead of the assembly elections in Punjab in 2017.
Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh claimed the Jathedars had serious deliberations on the apology letter from a representative of the dera.
He said the Dera had very humbly clarified that its head never attempted to equate himself with Guru Gobind Singh. “We have accepted the apology but have also warned the dera chief not to do anything that would hurt religious feelings of Sikhs or other religions,” the jathedar said.
