In an unprecedented development, the Panj Piyare of the Akal Takht on Friday morning asked the five Jathedars to resign as they had failed to respond to their summons over their decision to pardon Ram Rahim Singh in the 2007 blasphemy case without taking the ‘sangat’ into confidence recently.
Before seeking the resignation of the jathedars, the Panj Panj Piyare waited for them from 10.20am to 11.55 am at the Akal Takht in Sachkhand Darbar Sahib complex here. When nobody turned up, the jathedars were asked to resign.
The Panj Pyaras said, “We had summoned the jathedars of all takhts to seek their explanation on why pardon was granted to the Ram Rahim. But the jathedars haven’t bothered about the summons and do not care about Sikh tenets. They should immediately resign.”
