The SGPC has decided to grow organic vegetables and grains at Sattlani Sahib farms for use in langar at Sri Harimandir Sahib Ji. The decision is being hailed by environmental groups such as EcoSikh for the use of organic vegetables for langar.

The executive committee of the SGPC decided to use 35 acres of land at Sattlani Sahib for the use of organic farming.

Sikhs around the world are happy with the decision as currently the worldwide danger of chemicals on vegetables is widely known and so organic farming will promote other Gurdwara to follow suit.

EcoSikh representatives have stated that they are overwhelmed with the decision and there hope is that the decision would promote organic farming through the state.

The organic langar initiative will encompass the true meaning of langar which is free of any harmful chemicals.
