As part of his tour of Italy this weekend, the Akal Takht Jathehdar Gurbachan Singh, was invited to speak at Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Novellara.
When he was about to speak, a concerned youth from the Sangat stood up and ask why he hadn’t shown any support for the campaign to free Sikh political prisoners or even visited Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa in his village of Hassanpur, who has been on hunger strike for over 160 days for the release of Sikh political prisoners who’ve completed their terms.
The Singh from the Sangat had requested private time to pose his question to the Jathedar, but this had been rejected. Instead he was forcibly removed from the Gurdwara and the police were called for ‘security’.
However, the protest continued outside the Gurdwara Sahib in Italy, where the Sangat shouted slogans like ‘Traitor of the Panth’.
Gurbachan Singh currently occupies the role of the most senior spokesperson for matters concerning the Sikh nation, but rather than stay and discuss an important and current issue affecting Sikhs around the world, the Jathedar took to his car and fled to the airport.
The Singh who protested inside the Gurdwara continued to protest outside.
