Mangal Singh Sanghera was convicted of assaulting Balbar Bains with a deadly weapon outside Yuba City Gurdwara Sahib and sentenced to five years in prison and fine of $48,900.
The packed court room comprised of people supporting Mangal Sanghera and even wrote letters to the judge regarding the jury’s decision.
The attorney of Sanghera stated bain’s injuries weren’t serious and that hardship would be posed to his family as he’s the only working person.
However, the District Attorney stated the stabbing punctured Bains’ abdominal wall and came close to threatening his internal organs.
The DA argued Bain’s didn’t have any opportunity for self defense as Sanghera charged at with such a force that it lifted Bains from his feat.
Regarding the impact on Sanghera’s family, the DA stated since arrest the impact on his family hasn’t been “negative.”
Majority of the people who showed up to the court stated they regretted the decision and unhappy with the verdict.
