An SGPC executive committee meeting was scheduled for October 26 which has now been cancelled on the orders of SGPC Head Avtar Singh Makkar. Makkar stayed firm on his decision of suspending the Panj Piyare by stating he had every right to suspend them.

Members of the SGPC have confirmed the cancellation of the meeting after receiving the backing of CM Parkash Singh Badal.

Makkar told reporters that he will try to convince Sikhs and build “consensus”. When asked how he plans on building consensus he said, “I’m making efforts to build consensus.”

After the Panj Piyare summoned all five Jathedars on the Dera Sauda pardon, the SGPC Head quickly suspended him as he stated, “the Panj Piyare are invalid and have no authority to take such decisions.”

However, the Panj Piyare have maintained their stand and Sikhs overwhelmingly have accepted the hukamnama.
