The Golden Temple was built in 1830 by Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Reports say it cost 65 lakh ( over $1.5 billion) and 162 kgs of gold. During the ’90s the Sikh Temple was renovated and received more than 500 kg of gold, which cost nearly 140 crores (approximately $340 million).
The Temple has more than 30 layers of 24-karat gold and is the most valuable of India. It is worth nearly $2 billion.”
