Kalanaur (Gurdaspur): Promising “corruption-free governance on the pattern of the Arvind Kejriwal regime in Delhi”, leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at a big rally here on Friday asked people for the mandate in the 2017 Punjab elections.
Big turnouts at the AAP rallies in Punjab were signs of a state hungry for change, said party’s Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann, adding: “These numbers must be giving sleepless nights to the Akalis and the Congress.” Since starting of the campaign from Sangrur on September 2, this was the party’s 32nd rally in Punjab. Kalanaur, 25 kilometres from Gurdaspur, is where Mughal emperor Akbar was coronated at 9.
Addressing the rally, AAP in charge of Punjab affairs Sanjay Singh said the 2017 elections were “another fight for the freedom of the common man of Punjab from the corrupt government of Parkash Singh Badal”. He asked people to ignore the Akalis as well as the Congress in 2017 and let a third force in.
“It is a family rule in most states, including Punjab. The rulers are self-centred private limited companies,” said Sanjay Singh, while asking for power to the common man.
‘Sukhbir’s cover costs Rs 1.6 lakh a minute’
He said the elected AAP legislators and MPs would not have any security teams and red beacons atop official cars, while Sangrur MP and party’s election campaign leader in state Bhagwant Mann said the cost of Punjab deputy chief minister’s security was Rs 1.6 lakh every minute.
The MP said that on coming to power, his party would work for drug de-addiction and employment generation.
