Light Impact of Punjab Bandh (Video)

The city police rounded up around 50 persons including All India Sikh Student Federation (AISSF) chief Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad, who were trying to disrupt the rail traffic as part of the bandh call in the morning.

The activists of the AISSF and other panthic organisations, who reached the Shivala Railway crossing and Jaura rail crossing, were dispersed by the police. Later about 50 persons were detained and taken to various police stations.

As rail traffic remained normal till afternoon, city otherwise witnessed total bandh as shops and most of commercial establishments remained closed.

Even most of the educational institutes were shut down.

Police commissioner, Jatinder Singh Aulakh said, “We have rounded up about 50 persons who tried to block trains this morning. Train traffic is normal and moreover regular patrolling is done in the city to ensure that peace prevails.”

Led by additional deputy Commissioner of police City (I), the cops also took out a flag march in the Hall Gate area.

Later couple of Hindu organisations also marched towards Hall Gate to protest against the bandh but were stopped by police.

Notably, the Punjab bandh call was given by AISSF led by Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad to protest against the delay in justice to victims of 1984 massacre.
