Today, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced a flight from Delhi-Amritsar-Toronto with the airline Air India. The flight commences on September 27, 2019.
Hardeep Singh Puri stated:
Delighted to announce the commencement of a thrice weekly Air India flight between Sri Amritsar Sahib and Canada.
The Amritsar-Delhi-Toronto flight will commence on the occasion of World Tourism Day on 27 Sept 2019.
I am glad I was able to help in fulfilling this long pending demand of citizens of Guru Nagri & devotees who travel from North Americas to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiyana Mandir & other holy places.
This flight will mark an auspicious beginning of a new journey.
Kanwar Sandhu on his social media posted the following message on the recent announcement of the Amritsar-Delhi-Toronto.
“ASR-Dli-Toronto Flight – a fraud on Punjabis yet again
What has been announced as Amritsar-Delhi-Toronto flight is tantamount to cheating the people of Punjab wanting to go to Europe/ North America. If the GOI and the new Minister, Hardeep Puri, are sincere, the flight should be a direct Delhi-Amritsar-Toronto one. Any one familiar with basic geography knows that to go from Amritsar to London or Toronto, you don’t first fly in the opposite direction and go to Delhi. In all probability, the passengers who board at Amritsar will have to wait a couple of hours in Delhi (may be even change aircraft) and then head to Toronto.
Moreover, the present arrangement will not benefit the Cargo to be uploaded from Amritsar at all.
Let us all from Punjab – across political parties – join hands and reject this present flight and insist on a direct Delhi – Amritsar – Toronto flight.
If my memory serves me right, the same experiment – Amritsar – Delhi – London/ Toronto was tried earlier and failed seven years ago. We clearly learn nothing from past experience!”
