In observance of the auspicious occasion of 550th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Sikh community of Tehran, Iran would be completing sewa for 600th Akhand Path Sahib Larhi.
At the time of celebrating 500th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, one of the community members proposed the idea of 1200 Akhand Path Sahib’s for 600th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
It was proposed to sangat that Akhand Path Aarambh on last Wednesday of the month and Bhog on Friday as Iran being a Muslim country Friday is weekly off. Then langar to be served after the Bhog.
In this manner to have 12 Akhand Paths per year and 1200 Paths in 100 years. The sewa for Path and Langar can be taken by any family on yearly basis, i.e. Sewa for 12 Paths and 12 Langars to be done by one family. The sangat accepted the proposal and the Akhand Path Larhi started in 1970.
The sewa of Akhand Path Sahib recitation is done by the community members and not by paid Pathi’s or Granthi’s till date. The same goes for the Langar Preparation as it is prepared by Langri’s who have different professions in daily life but in Gurdwara they do nishkam sewa.
On 12th November 2019 when whole Nanak Naam Leva Sangat is excited to celebrate the historical event, the Sikh Sangat of Tehran, Iran would also be creating history by completing 600 Akhand Path Sahib’s. Over the 50 years 50 families and numerous community members did sewa.
This unique proposal ensured that the community was well knit, and everybody remains attached to the Guru Ghar. As there was no document to showcase about the Sikhs in Iran before, so recently I have assisted a community elder in writing a book which he plans to release on the Gurpurab day titled – IRAN DE GURSIKH TE SIKHI.
This book is not a commercial venture or for financial gains, but just to document the origin of Sikhs in Iran and their belief in Sikhism and building of Gurudwara in 1930’s and then grand new one in 1967.
