The Guru Nanak Dev Ji historic shrine located next to Jaganath Puri temple has been demolished in the Odisha Government’s clean up campaign. The site was where Guru Nanak showed the astro aarti that gets done everyday by the sun, stars, and planets.
The name of the site Mangu Mutt was demolished along with several shops in the area.
The Tribune quoted Captain Amrinder Singh:
“It was shocking that while the whole world was getting ready to commemorate the 550th Prakash Purb of the first Sikh Guru, the historically important Mutt, a symbol of the connection between Sikhism and the Jagannath Temple, was sought to be demolished by the Odisha government,” said Captain Amarinder.
The site was visited by Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji and said to be maintained by the Udasi Sect.
