A Punjab and Haryana high court bench on Monday issued notice to Punjab on a petition seeking direction to release, Sikh Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.

The petition was filed by his son, Ravinder Singh stating that family members of Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa were not being allowed to meet him and that Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa had been admitted in the hospital without the consent of his family members and Bapu Khalsa himself.

The directions have been sought to release Khalsa from the hospital and not to administer any medicine without his or his family members consent. He was admitted to PGIMER on September 27.

Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa is reported to be on hunger strike since January seeking release of Sikhs political prisoners.The petitioner sought permission from the high court bench to hear the matter on Thursday.
