AMRITSAR: Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) would launch a worldwide move to “liberate” Sikh’s supreme temporal body Akal Takht from the influence of SAD(B) and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
“During the struggle for the formation of HSGMC, there have been several instances when authority of Akal Takht was misused both by SAD(B) and SGPC and I am of the view that Sikhs living around the globe need to know about it,” said HSGMC senior vice-president Didar Singh Nalvi on Tuesday.
He said for now the focus was on the hearing in Supreme Court on August 25. The court had ordered status quo to both SGPC and HSGMC. Nalvi said advocate K T S Tulsi and another advocate would appear for HSGMC in the SC.
Advocating a “liberal” Akal Takht, he said a concerted movement would be initiated, describing step by step as to how one political party used its influence on the Akal Takht jathedar for its own vested interests.
