A Punjabi man named Jagjeet Singh was stabbed to death in a hate crime outside of a convenience store in Modesto, California. Eyewitness Sikandar Singh told reporters that the man stabbed Jagjeet continuously and he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Sikandar is the victim’s brother in law whose house Jagjeet had been staying for over a year.

The incident occurred after Jagjeet refused to sell a man cigarettes as he didn’t have the proper identification. The man upset for not being able to buy cigarettes told Jagjeet he’d be back with consequences. Several moments later, Jagjeet stepped outside of the store when the man came back and stabbed him to death.
