Chandigarh, Mar 17 (ANI): Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday protested against the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) bill passed by the Punjab assembly. The Punjab assembly on Monday passed a bill against the construction of the canal preventing its neighbouring states to get water from rivers flowing through Punjab. Hooda said the water through Sutlej-Yamuna Link is a life line for Haryana and the bill passed by Punjab raises question the entire federal structure of India.

The Supreme Court on Thursday put a stay order on the Punjab government’s bill de-notifying the land issued for the controversial Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal.

Expressing happiness, Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar said the apex court had also directed the Punjab government to stop filling the canal land with mud till the time a definite order comes on the matter.

He added the decision by the court is satisfactory as the bill passed by the Punjab government is unconstitutional.
