Gold Medalist Sikh Runner Reveals Runners Get Poverty Wages

Beant Singh the Sikh runner won a gold medalist at the 2015 Asian Games. The Sikh runner recorded the fastest time in the world in the Junior category in the 800m with a time of 1.52.

In the effort, Beant Singh recorded the fastest time in the Nation’s history. The interview revealed the runners only receive 5,000 rupees per month and even their apartments have to be paid for out of pocket.

When asked about any politician or anyone prominent called to congratulate him he said, “other than relatives no one has called.” No one has stepped up to give any reward money to Beant Singh as of yet. After nearly 60 years, Beant Singh is the first Sikh runner to run at an international level.
