Sikh Siyasat has reported that five Singh Sahibans/Jathedars have forgiven Gurmit Ram Rahim of Sacha Sauda Dera for his blasphemous act in 2007. The surprise move came at meeting at the Akal Takht where the Singh Sahibans took into consideration an apology letter submitted by the Dear Head Gurmit Ram Rahim.
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said he’s accepted the apology in the wake of the recent controversy and that it was leading to “cracks in families and communal unity.”
Sikhs worldwide have expressed disappointment because it’s the first time anyone was pardoned without even appearing at the Akal Takht.
The letter comes after political considerations by the ruling Shiromani Akal Dal. Many Sikh leaders are stating the move came after pressure from Akali Dal’s Parkash Badal who pressured the Singh Sahibans to accept the apology letter.
However, Gurmit Ram Rahim didn’t apologize for the act he committed and the letter is nothing near a letter of apology. The dera chief didn’t admit his guilt which is apparent from his letter. The only two words which make an apology letter are the words “Kahima Da Jachak.”
