Episode on Sikhs to Air on CNN

May 2, 2018 (New York, NY) – The Sikh Coalition is excited to share two new opportunities to promote the groundbreaking Sikh episode that will air on CNN’s United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell this Sunday, May 6th at 10pm ET/PT and 9pm CT.

Today, starting at 3pm ET, the Sikh Coalition will join the Religion Newswriters Association for a #SikhsOnTV Twitter Town Hall featuring Sikh community members who participated in the episode, Sikh reporters who work at Huffington Post and VICE News, and religion reporters who cover the Sikh community. The town hall will examine the importance of raising Sikh awareness in the media and the challenges and opportunities ahead. We hope you join and engage us in the conversation using #SikhsOnTV.

On Thursday, May 3rd, W. Kamau Bell will be joining the Sikh Coalition’s Social Justice Fellow, Winty Singh, for a Facebook Live interview beginning at 5pm ET. This interview will then be followed by a special Q&A session with W. Kamau Bell and Sikh Coalition Executive Director, Satjeet Kaur. Finally, it’s not too late to take additional action to help us make sure that the rest of America watches on Sunday, May 6th! Click here to learn about all of the easy ways you can make a difference in raising Sikh awareness around this episode.

Thanks to work by Harpreet Singh and support by Valarie Kaur, the Sikh Coalition media and communications team spent six months supporting United Shades of America producers with background resource material and B-roll footage. Now, the Sikh Coalition is working to amplify the CNN episode in an effort to engage and educate the larger American public.

Per CNN, all air dates for episodes of United Shades of America are subject to potential change. If that happens, the Sikh Coalition will update you immediately. United Shades of America will also stream live for subscribers via CNNgo on Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, Samsung Smart TV and Android TV. The series will also be available the day after the broadcast premiere on demand via cable/satellite systems, CNNgo platforms and CNN mobile apps.

As always, the Sikh Coalition urges you to practice your faith fearlessly.
