A large amount of fish and aquatic animals were found dead in the Beas river on Thursday due to a chemical leak froma Sugar mill.
The chemicals leaked from the ‘Chadha Sugar Industries Private Limited’ located at Kiri Afgana village near Sri Hargobindpur in Gurdaspur district.
The adminstration has pointed it towards an accidental release.
People panicked when the river color turned to a dark red and fish by the hundreds was found floating on the river.
Wildlife officials rushed to the scene and stated that due to a blast in the boiler of the mill, the incident caused a tremendous amount of fluid to leak into the river.
The MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla ordered the shutdown of the mill. Officials have called on people to not use the water for any purpose until the river is cleaned up.
