Panthic groups submit letter asking for permission to hold the scheduled Nov 10, 2015 Sarbat Khalsa at Manji Sahib Diwan Hall.

October 27, 2015- Panthic Sikh groups submitted a letter addressed to SGPC head asking for permission to hold Sarbat Khalsa at Manji Sahib Diwan Hall.

The decision to ask the SGPC permission has raised eyebrows because SGPC Head Avtar Singh Makkar has already denied the holding of any Sarbat Khalsa without prior approval from the Akal Takht Jathedar.

Head of the United Akali Dal Mohkam Singh along with Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar’s Harbir Singh Sandhu gave the letter to the newly appointed controversial Chief of Secretaries Harcharan Singh. Harcharan Singh stated that he’ll hand over the letter to Avtar Singh Makkar as he’s the one who would take a decision on the matter.

Throughout Punjab, SGPC members are being questioned and thrashed for their inability to address the sacrilege issue which has engulfed Punjab in unrest. Meanwhile, ‘Panthic’ groups are looking for approval from the same SGPC which has failed miserably.

Whether Sarbat Khalsa will happen or not is uncertain but one thing which seems obvious is that SGPC will not grant permission. Another issue with Manji Sahib Diwan Hall would be that it’s impossible to hold Sarbat Khalsa inside the hall due to the shortage of space.
