Members of the Sikh Sangat were denied entry into the Ross Street Gurdwara Sahib in Vancouver which hosted PM Modi for an event. The sangat protested outside of the Gurdwara against the Gurdwara committee for preventing Sikhs from entering.
The police made arrests of Sikhs who sought entrance to pay respects to Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. The Gurdwara committee members can be seen in the video denying entry of Sikhs into their own religious place. A pre-approved group of people were allowed inside the Gurdwara.
Police was present in heavy numbers who asked the protesting sangat to leave the site. Sikhs were prevented from entering the Gurdwara Sahib unless they were pre-approved by the Gurdwara Committee.
Indian PM Modi and Canadian PM Harper were presented with Siropas by the Ross Street Gurdwara Sahib.
Majority of the Sangat protesting was held few blocks away from the Gurdwara Sahib but about 80 protesters made their way outside.
Approximately 200 press members were present inside while only about 100 people came to see Modi and Harper inside the Gurdwara. The tight security measures prevented access for anyone to pay their respects to Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj.
Ross Street Gurdwara became the first Gurdwara in the World to lock it’s doors to prevent sangat from entering. Reportedly, the crowd outside was twice as large as the one inside.
