Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Balwant Singh Ramoowalia`s daughter Amanjot Ramoowalia, as the government has set in motion the process to remove her as the chairperson of district planning board, SAS Nagar.
SAD spokesperson and Anandpur Sahib MP Prem Singh Chandumajra said, “The decision has been taken to expel Amanjot from the party. There is a set procedure to remove someone from the post of chairperson of planning board, which will be completed in due course.”
The SAD sealed the political fate of Amanjot soon after her father took oath as a cabinet minister in Uttar Pradesh.
However, Amanjot said, “These are all rumours and nothing has been conveyed to me. I am a loyal party worker and will continue to be so. The decision of my father should not affect my career.”
Amanjot was appointed as the planning board chief in 2014 after the exit of Punjabi singer and actor Harbhajan Mann.
Chief parliamentary secretary NK Sharma, who is an MLA from Dera Bassi, is being considered as the frontrunner for the post of SAD in-charge of SAS Nagar. Sharma had held the post of chairperson of planning board, SAS Nagar, before the 2012 assembly elections and was being seen as a strong contender for the ticket from SAS Nagar.
But Sharma was sent to Dera Bassi at the eleventh hour and Ramoowalia, who had joined SAD by merging his Lok Bhalai Party, was fielded from SAS Nagar, leading to a lot of resentment among the party cadre. Ramoowalia lost the elections to Balbir Singh Sidhu of the Congress.
Another name doing the round to replace Ramoowalia is that of Harinder Pal Singh, who is the son of Prem Singh Chandumajra.
