The famous comedian Lilly Singh who grew famous from her YouTube videos and now has a late night TV show has issued an apology over comparing bath towels with turbans.
Lilly Singh made the comments on a recent show in a reply to a guest who was making a comment on people tying a towel on their head for hair drying purposes.
“In hindsight I recognise that was a disrespectful and problematic joke… And I’m very sorry,” she wrote.
She wrote on Twitter:
“A very important and heartfelt apology. I’m sorry. And thank you for helping me grow”

The apology came after many people on Twitter spoke out against the comment of Lilly Singh:
I have never found Lilly Singh’s humor funny. However, I’ve given her benefit of the doubt bc she’s a brown woman in Hollywood, so representation..or w/e. But this towel/turban debacle is not ok. That comparison has historically been used in a racist way against Sikhs. Not cool👎🏼
