Chennai is confronting its worst crisis after overnight rain that has left most of the city flooded and people wading in almost waist deep water. All flights have been suspended for the day and many trains have been cancelled.
Around 4000 passengers are stranded at the Chennai airport, where water has entered the runway, reaching the under carriage of aircraft after two days of heavy and continuous rain. All flights have been suspended at the airport and trains have been cancelled.
Tuesday’s worst downpour battered Chennai city with a 20 cm rainfall in 14 hours since 8.30am left more than half of the city marooned.
The Tamil Nadu government has announced holiday for schools and colleges while most of all the factories and offices too closed.
