Brampton – Member of Parliament-Elect for Brampton East, Raj Grewal, today issued the following statement on the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh massacres in India:

“It is with great sorrow that we remember the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh massacres.”

“Thousands of innocent Sikh men, women, and children lost their lives during this violence, and to this day, those responsible for these brutal attacks have not been brought to justice.

“We must work with the Indian government to ensure that important questions around 1984 are answered and that there is accountability and justice for the families and victims who are still impacted to this day.

“The Liberal Party of Canada is committed to supporting justice, human rights, and fairness on this issue 31 years later‎.”

NDP Leader Tom Mulcair made the following statement on the 31st anniversary of the November 1984 pogroms in India:

“The month of November marks the 31st anniversary of the tragic and deadly 1984 anti-Sikh pogroms in India.
On behalf of all New Democrats, I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to the thousands of victims of the anti-Sikh attacks and to the survivors, too many of whom are still left seeking answers more than three decades after these horrible events.
We continue to call for support and rehabilitation for the families that were destroyed by these attacks, especially widows.
New Democrats stand in solidarity with the Sikh community and other independent human rights organizations on the need for a full rendering of justice and truth in this tragedy.
We will not forget.”
