A SpiceJet flight hit a group of wild boars on the runway at Jabalpur airport, causing the plane to skid off the runway.
A major accident was averted at Dumna airport in Jabalpur where the SpiceJet aircraft skidded off the runway while landing, on Friday. All the 49 passengers and 4 crew members who were on board are safe. The incident left around seven boars dead and SpiceJet’s Q400 aircraft grounded with damage to the its left landing gear and undercarriage.
The pilot had to apply emergency brakes that led to the aircraft skidding off the runway. Sources added that the Mumbai-Jabalpur flight was on the “landing roll” when around 30-40 boars marched on to the runway. “The pilot lost control of the aircraft causing the aircraft to swing off the runway… None of the passengers or crew suffered injuries,” said a SpiceJet official.
