A man open fired inside a crowded Indian restaurant in Sydney, Australia overnight. Only 1 shot was fired in a window of the restaurant located in Wigram Street at Harris Park just before 9pm on Tuesday evening.
The police said around 40 people were inside the restaurant when the incident occurred. Luckily, the bullet didn’t hit anyone as it was blocked by a shelf made out of metal.
The police officer told ABC News:
“The frightening thing with this is that the shot that was fired … was in a particular part of the restaurant which was extremely busy,” he said.
Inspector Phillips said the alleged gunman, wearing a light blue hoodie, knocked a woman to the ground as he fled along Wigram Street.
“[The offender] has gone around the corner of the street and this lady has been walking the opposite way,” he said.
“He collided with this lady and we believe this lady … should be able to give us a visual description of the offender.”
One local resident said there was a similar incident nearby just a few months ago — though no-one was hurt then, either.
“There was someone shot across the road — or there was a shot across the road — a couple of months ago,” he said.
“Why are there shootings? Why have people got guns and [are] shooting? It’s unnecessary. It’s ridiculous.”
Superintendent Wayne Cox said police were investigating a previous shooting in the area, but it was too early say if the two were connected.
“There have been a couple of incidents at Harris Park over the past six months,” he said.
“We are obviously conducting full investigations into each of these matters and keeping an open mind into all the investigations that are currently taking place for that particular CBD area.”
