Satveer Singh a 22 year old man was identified by his family after a body was found in Brampton lake. The man went missing late Sunday evening around Professor’s lake which is a 65 acre man made lake near the Bramalea Road and Bovaird Drive.

Satveer’s cousin told police that both were walking along the shore of the lake when he fell into the water and wasn’t able to come back out.

Rescue teams dived into the water to find his body but were unsuccessful until after 8am on Monday.

Family members of Satveer Singh said he was a college student who was “very nice guy, very polite” who had immigrated from India just 2 years ago.

The police stated Satveer was swimming in a prohibited area of the lake despite most the lake being shallow. The death of the young man is the 2nd this year in the same lake.

However, family members are ruling out that Satveer died due to falling in the lake and not being able to come out. A family member posted on Facebook:

“In first report police wasn’t even sure what exactly happened.they were thinking Satveer went in to the lake for swim.what unfortunately it wasn’t any thing like this.he don’t know how to swim”

Brampton Mayor Linda Jeffrey released a statement on the tragic death:

“Our community is once again saddened and mourning the sudden and premature loss of life at Professor’s Lake yesterday evening,” Jeffrey said. “The thoughts of our community are with the family as they attempt to cope with this terrible loss.”
