Faridkot Police booked a Bibi 80 Year-old for ‘attempt to murder’ but she wasn’t even on at the spot where the incident occurred. Students were protesting against private bus operators in Punjab on May 6 in Faridkot.
The Bibi’s grandson and not her was present at the protest, but now she faces allegations of committing a crime which didn’t commit.
The Punjab Students Union organized protests against Akali owned by bus and were allegedly attacked. The students clashed with security personnel and police baton charged the protesters. The Faridkot police arrested 14 students and 2 girls and among those picked up was the Bibi’s 13 year old grandson.
Later in the day, the Bibi was also charged for attempt to murder. The Faridkot SSP Charanjit Singh said, “A case has been registered under sections 307, 427, 141, 148, 149 of the Indian Penal Code. The bus driver sustained serious injuries.”
Reportedly, the grandmother hadn’t visited where the protesting had occurred. The police have yet to arrest Bibi Balbir Kaur but charges were being made against her.
“Registration of a case against a 13-year-old boy and his 80-year-old grandmother is the mockery of law. The woman who did not visit the spot has been implicated falsely. She never participated in the protest. We condemn the police action,” said Sukhpreet Singh, a resident of Ghuttuwala village.
The protesters continued protests on Tuesday and demanded cancellation of permits of Orbit Bus Company in relation to the death of the 14 year old girl last month.
