Video: Bhai Baldeep Singh was present in a Sarbat Khalsa related meet in Jalandhar where he fully supported the upcoming Sarbat Khalsa on November 2015.

In a related matter he wrote on his Facebook:

Who should be Jathedar?

I understand that various people, and organizations have proposed names (for Who Should Instead Be The Jathedar Of Akal Takhat?) over the last several weeks and months.

Now, I may not have met most of the names who have been proposed and obviously would have never had a chance to discuss anything related to Gur-Sikh matters with the names (who aren’t yet official nominees). Even if I had a chance to know or hear about any one among the proposed names, I may not have had a chance to gauge them for their abilities for the (position) on offer (now).

So, to be able to endorse —vote for a name, I (and all of us per se) will need more information, and not just some personal information that is available as of now, so we can know more not only about their understanding of the Gur-Sikh Panth as it stands now but about their vision for the years, decades, centuries and times ahead.

One thing is certain that the credentials which may be suitable for becoming the Head Granthi of Darbar Sahib or any other important Gurudwara are not going to be enough to be the Jathedar of Akal Takhat. I see the Akal Takhat Jathedar in the image of the ones who have served during the Guru times and later, perhaps until the mid-19th century. It is important, from now onwards, for the Jathedar to have a very comprehensive understanding of all matters including intra-Sikh Panth, inter-communities, inter-religious, cultural heritage, arts, internal and external security, internal-external affairs, military, revenue, finance and so on. A person’s ability to do Katha, Kirtan or activism (of any particular kind) howsoever well has never proved to be enough as witnessed by us over the last decades nor will it be enough now or in the future.

It is now time to set our house — the Guru-Ghar — in order!
